I have just returned from a Women’s Church Retreat in a local State Park. The topic was about Chaos and Courage, presented by a female pastor and attended by people of a variety of colors. I reflect on this as I watched a PBS show this morning discussing the good and bad of the Tradwife (for traditional wife) movement on social media. TikTok was banned today and will likely rear its ugly head once again giving us a full dose of outside propaganda and possibly seeking our warring demise. But here we are, aren’t we, a product of our own choices. I can’t help but to also reflect on the greed and evil in this world that we create and endure daily.
I was once a traditional wife and mother and loved it for about ten years, making my then husband jealous of my ability to stay home and raise our children. To be honest, I did not stay home full time and bake bread until the Pandemic, but worked in a local church preschool part time. You see I was educated with a Masters Degree in Social Work before I married at age 30. My mother was told by her father in the 1940’s that women did not need to drive a car or attend college but she left the farm anyway and worked to get a degree in Christian Ministry and Teaching. She was then in a traditional marriage and homemaker in the 1950’s as many other women chose to do but returned to teaching later.
Why is it we choose sides on topics that can best be discussed and finding a common ground except that all of us want change, acceptance, and to be able to live and breathe in the freedom to do all things, in stages and in seasons of life? There is a reason women need to find meaning and purpose in a talent or ability they possess and a reason women need to freedom to use their creative and academic abilities to make the world a better place. There is also no reason for men to fear and speak against this as it gives them a better life all around. If women want to start a business baking bread to bring more income to the family, or teach in a university, they are given the grace by God to do so and the fear of men should not stop them.
If you look at Numbers 27 you will find five sisters who had no brothers and stood to lose their father’s inheritance. They presented their question to Moses who went to God and learned that it was good in God’s eyes to give the women their land. The men of the tribe later “feared” the loss of land and ruled that the women should marry within their own tribe to keep the land. Women speaking with women against the old outdated laws that even found God on their side. Wow! The New Testament says again and again, do not fear. Live today and tomorrow without fear, men and women, please.
