It seems I missed posting in May and June as months were busy with travel recovery, garage sales, and more travel. This time to St. Louis for a family wedding, Detroit for a Father’s Day Tigers baseball game, and then back to New Orleans to visit with the new three month old first grandchild, and the parents. More downsizing with a lesson in what people want and pass up at the local garage sale, and how to find thrift stores to take mother’s stuff.

Reflections on life and age continue to come as we gather with family, mostly younger now, as we have moved into the elder generation. I am fine with being retired at this point and packing a bag to hit the road. We have planned one of those river boat tours in the Fall after the second grandchild is due. But the recovery time from travel is different now especially if I pick up the local bug and bring it home. A sore throat can be allergies or more these days. Then there is the decision on getting more vaccines.

I tend to believe in medical science and not the political personality of the day for my knowledge on health care and how to stay well. I watch also, now exhausted with the heat and the political antics and will wait for the ‘I told you so’ moments when rural hospitals bite the dust. So sad for those not blessed by big city choices in doctors and hospitals. We are so blessed to have cutting edge science in this country to keep us here longer to enjoy the grandchildren, and the technology to communicate with other scientists around the world.

I do spend more time bird watching now between trips, and at the library picking up my next read for two bookclubs I enjoy. I’m currently reading “How We Learn to be Brave, Decisive Moments in Life and Faith”, by Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal Bishop of Washington; “Opus The Cult…Right-Wing Conspiracy… inside the Catholic Church” by Gareth Gore; and a paperback murder mystery, comedy by Elle Cosimano. I highly recommend reading and traveling as they both open up the world and the imagination of the individual. I do not recommend conspiracy theories or even AI just yet as the majority of the time we seem to be just figuring out what is truth and what is fiction or lies these days. Oh well, less social media, more reading and bird watching today. Be well my friend.

Retirement

How did I get here? One minute I was young in the 60’s and 70’s the next I’m retired and looking at life after work and paycheck and wondering which steps to take next. My friends say life is full of more choices now with time and reduced energy and some are much busier now with volunteer experiences, travel, and family time.

Here are some thoughts to share end expressions of one born into one generation and dealing with several more born afterwards. Thoughts about technology, faith, family, sometimes politics and choices. Just here to laugh, cry, and share ideas. Have fun.
